After an incredibly successful pilot in Cape Town this fall, we are so excited to announce that we are going to be working there permanently starting this January! We will begin a full-time course at Monte Cristo Miqlat (MCM), where we launched our initial pilot. The course will include roughly 15 students in each session, and the structure will be the same as in our Kenyan courses. The students are slightly older than our Kibera kids, and as such we were able to introduce more advanced photography and social concepts during the pilot. We can’t wait to see the kids again, and to continue building off of the progress they have already made!
In addition to this new, permanent Photo Start location, we will also run two pilot sessions at Stellenbosch in Cape Town. These pilots will run for approximately one month, and we look forward to seeing the same levels of success we had at MCM!
Not to worry though — our Kenyan classes will be in good hands while we get our South African sessions up and running. To get us started, David will switch between month-long stints in Kenya and South Africa while the staff at each location are continuously trained to run the programs themselves. We also hope this will provide an opportunity for some of our more advanced students to step up and take on significant leadership roles.
We can’t wait to start this new chapter of Photo Start, and we hope you’ll follow along on social media as we post pictures of the progress!
